Dal teams have had the fortune to practice together for nearly the whole first semester and several teams are back from the winter break ready to pick up from where they left off in the fall. Compared to the rest of Canada, including regions subject to lockdowns, Tigers teams have trained together more than most U Sports schools. At the same time, some athletes hoped season play would be underway by now.

Anna Stammberger (née Pendergast) has coached her final regular season basketball game for the Dalhousie University Tigers women’s basketball team. The 2014-2015 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year announced she would retire following the 2020-2021 season.

The Nova Scotian Black and Indigenous Coach Mentorship Program was launched in September 2020 by Mark Smith. The program aims to provide a place for young coaches from Black and Indigenous communities to learn about coaching, with an emphasis on providing a well-rounded perspective on it.

Hudson Grimshaw-Surette captured four gold medals at the 2020 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Track and Field Championships in Saint John, N.B. in February of last year. One of those golds, his victory in the 600-metre run, he dubs a “dual gold” as he owes the win partly to his brother and Dalhousie University Tigers track teammate Harmon Grimshaw-Surette.

It’s been nearly nine months since the Dalhousie University Tigers swimming team wrapped up their 2019-2020 season at the U Sports Championships. They finished just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Swimmers felt the pandemic’s effects in the off-season though as pools nationwide closed.

Victoria Haworth learned she was named a winner of the Dalhousie University Tigers’ President’s Award a couple of days before it was announced on April 3, 2020. Her volleyball coach Rick Scott and the Tigers were aware Victoria’s father was in poor health. They told Victoria of her win early so she could share the news with her father.
