Elyanna Ventura, Chair of the Board of Directors

Ely is going into her third year of Computer Science at Dalhousie and serves as the Board Chair of the Gazette. While most of her degree revolves around programming, writing has always been a different kind of home for her. Her love for writing started with songwriting and poetry, and eventually found its way into student journalism. She has written two pieces for the Gazette that meant a lot to her, especially because they gave her a space to write honestly about love, relationships, and the things that are sometimes hard to say out loud. That experience is a big part of why she cares so much about the Gazette — she wants to help give other students the same space to tell their stories, say what they need to say, and feel heard. She’s excited to spend this year helping make student journalism a place for honest writing, real stories, and a little bit of everything in between.
