Men’s soccer can’t contain physical Huskies

Halifax natives Zach Bauld and Derek Gaudet put the Tigers to bed Wednesday night, scoring on either side of the half to give Saint Mary’s a 2 – 0 victory at Huskies Stadium Oct. 26.

Saint Mary’s victory follows Dal’s 1 – 0 win last Friday at Wickwire Field.

The Huskies’ physical play from the first whistle to the last caused the Tigers many problems. Undisciplined fouls were the story as Dal’s wingbacks couldn’t handle the pace of the Huskies wingers.

The Tigers could not find their footing offensively and were instead defending attack after attack. Zach Fisher took an early yellow card when he was beat by Ian Coke, leading the way for a choppy affair without much fluidity.

Bauld would score in the 10th minute and Gaudet expanded SMU’s lead in the 54th minute.

Dal goalkeeper Ben Ur proved once against why he is well on his way to becoming an AUS first team all-star for the second consecutive year, standing on his head with a number of stellar saves in the loss

The Tigers hold onto third place in the AUS, falling to a 6-4-2 record with one game remaining. They host the winless Acadia Axemen,0-8-3,on Sunday, Oct. 30.

Saint Mary’s is in fifth place with a 4-2-5 record.
