Tigers ambushed as playoff fight heats up

A frustrating year for Dal’s No. 1 goalie Bobby Nadeau did not get any better Feb. 3. UPEI Panthers forward Jared Gomes had a hat trick and Devin Praught had a goal and an assist as Nadeau and his Dalhousie Tigers fell 5 – 2 at Memorial Arena.

Nadeau has started in two of his team’s last three games since he was sidelined once again this season in mid-January for reinjuring his groin. He has not won either of his starts after returning to the lineup.

The defeat doesn’t help Dal as they fight for a playoff spot. After AUS action on Feb. 3, the Tigers are three points behind St. FX for the last post-season berth. The X-Men triumphed over Moncton 4 – 3 that night.

Two shorthanded goals and an even strength marker by the Panthers in the first period saw Dal fall behind 3 – 1. The second period wasn’t any better as the Tigers played catch up, struggling to keep up with the speedy Panthers, who added two more goals. The Tigers would add one of their own from Daniel Bartek with 36 seconds remaining, ending the match on a more positive note.

For an extended recap of the game, check the Feb. 10 edition of the Dalhousie Gazette.
