Chief returning officer resigns before DSU election

The chief returning officer for the 2014 Dalhousie Student Union (DSU) election, David Nguyen, has stepped down on the eve of the election’s nomination period.

Nguyen’s assistant, Ding Fan, will take over as CRO. A new deputy CRO will be appointed soon, likely at tonight’s DSU council meeting, according to the student union’s communications manager Lindsay Dowling.

The election season essentially begins tonight with the opening of the nomination period at 11:59 p.m..

Nguyen’s resignation was announced earlier this afternoon on the DSU’s social media accounts.

He previously served as chief electoral officer for the University of Guelph student association’s 2013 election. Nguyen studies social work at Dalhousie.

Nguyen has not immediately returned the Gazette‘s request for comment.
