Running for: Board of Governors
Name: Curtis Johnston
Age: 21
Program: Fourth-year mechanical engineering
Hometown: Cochrane, AB
Interesting fact: To show his Dal spirit, he once shaved “DAL” into the back of his head
Curtis Johnston hopes to bring his experience from sitting in on DSU council for the last year and a half, as well as his understanding of the inner workings of the DSU, to the Board of Governors.
Johnston wants to oversee where inevitable funding cuts will be made in the years to come as well as advocate a greater representation of committees and students.
“School fees are going to be increasing and we want to make sure they aren’t increasing spending in areas that don’t need it,” says Johnston.
Johnston feels that running for a position on the Board of Governors is important because he is the only candidate and he wants to ensure that someone represents the students.
“I feel that getting involved within the student government is a really good way to help out your school,” Johnston says. “My experience will bring an understanding of what students feelings are as well as balance what will benefit the university in the long term.”
Johnston says students should vote for him because it is important to have someone on the board who understands the workings of the student union. He believes that his experience will aid in this understanding and allow him to accurately represent students in front of the Board of Governors.
