A smattering of Dal black and gold and St. FX blue and white sat atop the leaderboard at the Saint Mary’s Invitational Saturday at Point Pleasant Park.

In the women’s division, St. FX’s Natalie Kannenberg won the 5km cross-country race in 19:05, beating Dal’s Cara Groves and Ellen Chappel, who crossed the finish line in second and third respectively. St. FX also prevailed over Dal in the team event.

The two schools occupied each spot in the top 18. The competition involved four other AUS schools.

Dal’s contingent also could not eclipse St. FX in the men’s 7.5km race. Tigers rookie Matt McNeil leaped nearly 10 spots as the race progressed to attain second place, yet he could not fend off X-Men Connor MacGuire for the crown. MacGuire’s time was 24:36.

Similar to the women’s race, Dal’s men finished in second to St. FX in the team category.
