Election Bio: Alex Hallink

Running for: VP (student life)

Name: Alex Hallink

Age: 20

Program: Third-year kinesiology

Hometown: Collingwood, ON

Interesting fact: Went in boarding school, so is currently in her sixth year in residence

Alex Hallink wants the entire student body to see her passion for Dalhousie. She believes that will make her a successful VP (student life).

“I love the school and I want to give back. It’s just fun,” she says.

“Some people want to be varsity athletes, some people want to do really well academically— I want to get involved.”

Last year, Hallink was the president of Risley Hall and served as the residence representative on the DSU. She is currently the president of the Dal Women’s Rugby club, along with serving as a resident assistant for Eliza Ritchie Hall.

Hallink wants to see a “holistic” approach to the VP (student life) position and try to find a balance between academics and being active and healthy along with having fun.

She figures athletics is a place where she could help, saying that it has been neglected by the DSU.

“I think unless it turns around, we’re going to see decisions made along the lines of what happened to SMU’s women’s hockey team,” she says.

“That’s really dangerous and really kind of a critical rallying point that we should be coming around.”

Above all, Hallink wants to get all students engaged, which she says would be a huge boom to Dal.

“We want them to have that excitement and be involved.”
