Running for: VP (student life)
Name: Gavin Jardine
Age: 21
Program: Third-year international development and sustainability
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Interesting fact: Plays bass and acoustic guitar, drums, banjo and didgeridoo
Gavin Jardine only became involved in student government in August, signing up to be an Orientation Week leader after the deadline had already passed. Since then, he’s been on a whirlwind ride that he hopes will land him the position of VP (student life).
“I just realized how powerful sharing your experiences at Dal with new students can be,” he says.
“I realized if I could do it for them, why couldn’t I do it for the whole campus?”
Jardine spent the past year as the events commissioner for the Grawood, where he oversaw ticket sales and promotions among other duties. He worked closely with incumbent VP (student life) Jamie Arron, which he says gives him a good understanding of the job.
If elected, Jardine wants to make Dalhousie a “hub of arts and culture.” He says the current student union has done well and wants to build off that.
He says he wants to “increase student spirit and strengthening through O-Week and Frosh Week and everything in between.”
He says that he would bring a healthy dose of fun to DSU meetings, along with a willingness to collaborate with all students.
“I care about other people and not myself, and that’s how I’m going to approach the position.”
