Dalhousie’s women’s soccer team travelled Friday evening to take on fourth place St. FX; the Tigers themselves were tied for first place.

With a tight race atop the AUS, the game was sure to be an exciting contest, and this was not a disappointment. The fast-paced game ended in a 4 – 1 victory for the black and gold.

It is the Tigers fifth consecutive win after losing their season opener to UPEI.

Dal’s forwards were an oppressive presence on the opposition, dominating play for the majority of the game. Doriana Homerski, Biannca Jakisa, Rieka Santilli and Daphne Wallace provided Dal’s goals. The assists were contributed by Joanna Blodgett, Homerski and Megan Willox.

Stephanie Cameron, assisted by Maura Woodman, scored the lone goal for St. FX. The tally tied the game at one midway through the first half.

In further action, the Tigers face the Cape Breton Capers Saturday at 3 p.m. Dal beat the defending champs on home turf last weekend 3 – 2.

For an extended recap of the game, read the Oct. 7 edition of the Dalhousie Gazette.

CORRECTION: In a previous version of this brief, we said the Tigers were up 6-1, in their sixth consecutive win. Up 5-1, in their fifth consecutive win is correct. The Gazette regrets the error.

Hailing from Saint John, Andrew followed his frosh leader to a Gazette contributor's meeting in his first week at Dalhousie and didn't look back. He took on the women's soccer beat, attending games at Wickwire no matter the weather and watching the webcast whenever the Tigers were on a different pitch. He does not claim any responsibility for the Tigers winning the league championship during his first season covering the team.
