BREAKING NEWS: Talks between Dalhousie and its faculty end with no further meetings scheduled
In a Tuesday afternoon statement, Dalhousie University said that the conciliator ended talks between Dal’s board of governors and the Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) at 4 p.m, with no further negotiations scheduled.
“We’re disappointed to hear that talks ended with no news on a deal,” says Dalhousie Student Union President Maren Mealey. “It’s incredibly frustrating because we were hoping to get students back to the classes they’re paying for as soon as possible.”
Representatives of the board and DFA met on Monday for conciliation talks, which continued on Tuesday at the conciliator’s request.
The university locked out almost 1000 DFA members on Aug. 20, before the association finished voting on the board’s final offer. The DFA went on strike in retaliation on Aug. 22.
Dalhousie’s fall term was set to begin on Sept. 2, but most classes are suspended for the duration of the lockout.
“We urge parties to come back together and engage in talks to make a deal that prioritizes faculty, students and our financial investment in our education,” Mealey says.
