Tap water unsafe to drink due to discolouration on Halifax campus

Dalhousie facilities management will send updates via DalSAFE

At 12:40 p.m. on Thursday, DalSAFE sent out a release alerting students that water at Dalhousie University’s Halifax campuses is discoloured and unsafe to drink.

“[People are] advised not to drink the tap water unless from a filtered source like drinking fountains or water bottle fill stations,” said the release.

This is due to off-campus work by Halifax Water, who are currently attempting to flush out the discolouration. As of 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, there is no change in status.

Dalhousie facilities management told the Dalhousie Gazette that students should run their taps with cold water to help flush out the water discolouration.

Any future updates will be sent out to students via DalSAFE.

Jonas May

Jonas is heading into the Master of Journalism program at King's after recently graduating from St. Thomas University in Fredericton, where he majored in journalism and digital media. In his last year at STU, Jonas was the news editor for the university's student newspaper, The Aquinian, where he learned many skills he hopes to bring to the Gazette. Despite getting into journalism for his love of sports, Jonas' recent work has leaned towards political reporting. This culminated in an invitation as a media member to attend the 2025 Liberal Leadership convention, where Mark Carney was named the leader of the Liberal Party.
